Technical information & instructions

Instructions to speakers and chairpersons at the 15th Nordic Congress of General Practice in Reykjavik.

Thank you all for your contributions to the congress. We expect the congress to be an important and pleasant event and a memorable experience to all of us. These instructions are intended to give technical information to speakers and chairpersons participating in the program. The congress program will be available in printed version as well as on our homepage http://www.meetingiceland.com/gp2007/  We would like to point out that lectures will be available in ppf.format on our website after the congress and can be downloaded.  The website will be open for 3 years.

Official language:  English is the official language of the congress. However, in some of the workshops, Scandinavian languages (Swedish, Danish and Norwegian) will be allowed. In these cases this will be pre-announced in the program.

Technical information regarding presentations:  All meeting rooms are equipped with computers with Microsoft software and projectors as well as laser pointers, paper boards and pens. There is an internet connection available both direct and wireless.  Please note that there is no equipment for transparent overhead sheets.

All presentations must be as Power Point documents and Microsoft compatible, please use the 2003 version when you save. There is a Computer center with Microsoft computers in Haskolabio where presenters can review their data and presentations and get technical assistance.
If you use a Macintosh computer please have your software transferred into Power Point compatible documents. We can only assist with transfer of files in case of “emergencies”.

Due to the size of the congress, all data material is tested and made ready in advance on each computer desktop at the appropriate place and time.  Therefore we need all data, documents and material to be used during a  presentation to be sent to us before June 10th, as an e-mail with an attachment to This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it .

Make sure all your material includes the following information;  Assigned name of a presentation,  author´s full name. Day, hour and place of presentation.

If alterations are made to this material after it is sent, we need this update as soon as possible.  Make sure you deliver the whole document and not a small change somewhere in the document.  You must bring a back-up of your document on an USB Memory Disk and bring it to our technical assistants as early as possible before your lecture, if changes and updates have been made from the time it was sent to us.  Last minute corrections or updates cannot be guaranteed.

If you wish to distribute paper handouts please bring this with you. Please note that presentations will be available on the website after the congress.

Speakers:  Chairmen for each session are responsible for informing their group about technical information regarding lectures.  All presenters are requested to report to the chairperson of their session in the appropriate meeting room 15 minutes before the session begins.  An oral presentation of a free standing paper (Traditional Research, Education and Debate papers) is planned as a maximum of 15 minutes, 10 minutes as a presentation and 5 minutes for discussion. Time limits for the total event must be respected.

Chairpersons:    In all the meeting rooms, a microphone should be used for questions and discussions.  There will be an assistant or a technician available in congress rooms. All material to be used will be on each computer desktop and you will only have to make sure that the appropriate lecture will come up on the screen. If you cannot do this, please contact the technician or the assistant, who will help with this and other problems that may arise. Please be in your session room at least 15 minutes before the scheduled beginning of your presentation. In some of the symposia and workshops, you may want to introduce the speakers.  Please note that due to the size of the congress we need to run a very strict time schedule and enforce strict time limits.  This is also necessary as congress participants may want to move from one session to another.
